To achieve this, we provide support, advice and advocacy to improve access to suitable accommodation, public services and employment.

The objectives are:

  • To ensure suitable, safe, good quality accommodation for all Gypsies and Travellers

  • To improve access to and effectiveness of public services for Gypsies and Travellers

Greater engagement

Underlying all our services is a focus on challenging discrimination. Our strategic aim here is to make sure that, by challenging discrimination and stereotypes, we can achieve greater engagement with the wider community and their greater access to public services.

Over the past five years we have focused on developing our new services and creating consistency and stability with a dedicated team of workers. We have successfully settled into the Trowbridge Community Centre and expanded our office space to facilitate the growing team.

Gypsies and Travellers Wales provides advice and support to Gypsies and Travellers about accommodation, homelessness, welfare benefits, reviews and appeals, health, social services and racial discrimination.

We work with the community to challenge discrimination and social exclusion Gypsies and Travellers face and promote an inclusive and positive culture.

Gypsies and Travellers Wales liaise and work in partnership with local authorities and public services bodies to improve the delivery of services to Gypsies and Travellers, particularly regarding the development, management and maintenance of sites to influence policy and development.

Empowering the community

We help public service providers and the Welsh Government to consult with Gypsies and Travellers and to incorporate their views and needs into policies and strategies by consulting with residents on both authorised and unauthorised sites.

We are able to train and support Gypsies and Travellers to carry out a consultation on health issues for the Welsh Government.

Our organisation enables Gypsies and Travellers to contribute to police training and other Gypsy and Traveller awareness courses we also arrange for Gypsies and Travellers to contribute to National Assembly cross party working and consultative groups.

Contributing to development of the Welsh Government Guidelines on Gypsy and Traveller accommodation needs assessments.

Gypsy and Travellers Wales aim to empower the community and encourage their involvement in any issues of concern by contributing to development of the Welsh Government Guidelines on Gypsy and Traveller accommodation needs assessments.
