Welsh Government Consultation

We are excited to have partnered with Travelling Ahead to undertake engagement work with the Gypsy and Traveller community to understand their views on the Welsh Government Draft Guidance documents: Managing Gypsy and Traveller Sites, Designing Gypsy and Traveller Sites, Managing Unauthorised Encampments and Designing Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessments.

Over the next few months, we will be meeting with members of the Gypsy and Traveller community across the whole of Wales to hear their thoughts on the four documents. We will then create a report to present to the Welsh Government so that the voices of the Gypsy and Traveller community can be represented in the final guidance.

See our News & Events section for how to get involved

Our Moving For Change funded project

At the start of 2022 we were awarded funding from the Gypsy & Traveller national network Moving for Change. The project focuses on looking at the lack of site accommodation across the Wales. Our project officer Jay is carrying out the research and looking at data from GTAA results to map the need for permanent and transit sites or stopping places.

Jay is also researching health inequalities for Gypsy and Traveller communities and mapping so called unauthorised encampments, to help build a clearer picture of where needs are greatest.

For more information about the project contact Jay by email or phone.

Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessments

We have supported delivery of community engagement in Cardiff, Newport and Torfaen for each GTAA, ensuring that local authorities are reaching as many community members as possible.

We also sit on GTAA Stakeholder meetings across a number of Local Authorities in Wales and advise regarding how the GTAA questions are put together and ensuring community voices are embedded in the process from the beginning.

Welsh Government Housing Committee Inquiry into Accommodation Provision for Gypsies and Travellers

During spring of 2022 the Welsh Senedd held an inquiry into the accommodation crisis for Gypsies and Travellers across Wales. We worked with them to support community engagement and took part in panel meetings giving evidence, organised community focus groups and interviews with individuals, as well as facilitate site visits with members of the Senedd responsible for the inquiry.
