Remote Adviceline Adviser

Contract: Part time Monday – Friday 9:30 – 14:30 (25 hrs per week) initially for 12 months, possibility of extension subject to funding.

Salary – £16,000.00 actual salary

Gypsies and Travellers Wales are advice and advocacy organisation that offers support to the Gypsy and Traveller community across Wales to access suitable accommodation, public services and employment.

We have received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to provide a Pan Wales Adviceline and are therefore looking to employ someone in the role of a Remote Adviceline Adviser.

This role will be home based and can be done from anywhere in the Wales, you will need to have a good understanding of the Welsh and UK benefits system.

In this role, you will:

  • Respond to a variety of enquiries from individuals from the Gypsy and Traveller community relating to welfare benefits, housing, education, employment and discrimination.
  • Support clients to apply for benefits over the phone, such as Universal Credit, Blue Badge application, Discretionary Assistance Fund, Child Benefit, Food Bank Vouchers and other applications that can be undertaken remotely.
  • For more complex tasks you will refer to our other projects within the organisation or refer/signpost to other agencies outside of our organisation.
  • Accurately record information into the database, ensuring data quality and data protection guidelines.

What we are looking for:

  • You need to have excellent communication skills,
  • A genuine interest in helping others, you are patient, adaptable and know how to deliver an excellent customer experience.
  • This role is expected to be busy you will need to be patient, resilient and a great listener.
  • Whilst in this role will see you spend a considerable amount of time on the phone, there is also an administrative element to the role so you will need to be computer literate.
  • A good knowledge of welfare benefits in Wales and the UK and experience supporting people to apply for these benefits.
  • Ideally you have experience working with disadvantaged groups.
  • Experience in a customer care / helpline or telephone support role is beneficial.
